Abstract This article presents the results of an empirical study on how elements of humor from animated English cartoons travel across languages and cultures (Persian) through one of media translation procedures, namely dubbing. The analysis of the data is based on Viney and Darbelnet (1995) model of translation which allowed determining the percentage of original humorous load as compared with the load of the target text (Persian dubbed version).
